Redmi 13c

Budget-friendly smartphones are getting better day by day and yet again we have witnessed another awesome smartphone that is launched with a very decent price tag. We are talking about the Redmi 13c, a budget smartphone launched on November 10, 2023.

Ever since its release, the Redmi 13c has received a warm reception due to its impressive specifications. Users are very happy to have their hands on the MediaTek Helio G85 with a reliable price tag. This phone shines not only due to its chipset but also due to its long-lasting battery and good software experience thanks to the Android 13 and MIUI 14 interface.

In this blog post, we will delve into the technical specifications of this phone and will also discuss its price tag in Pakistan and the international market. Feel free to skip to any part using the table of contents given below.

Design and Display

The Redmi 13c comes with more or less the same design that we have seen in other phones as well. It has a sleek look and feels nice to hold. Although it comes with a plastic back and a plastic frame, it feels solid in hand and doesn’t give any cheap feeling. The plastic back is resistant to fingerprints and this is a plus point for this phone.

It comes with a dew-drop notch that most of the people feel is too old-fashioned. The screen-to-body ratio is acceptable but there’s a slight bezel at the bottom. The screen is 6.74 inches long and has a clear resolution of 720 x 1600 pixels. The colors look decent on this phone but not as great due to the lack of an AMOLED panel.

The Redmi 13c rocks an IPS display that comes with a 90 Hz refresh rate and this display can hit a peak brightness of about 600 nits. The screen is protected by Corning Gorilla Glass but the model is not mentioned.

Performance

At the core of the Redmi 13c lies the MediaTek Helio G85, a great chipset that performs well in day-to-day tasks and some light gaming. This chipset features an octa-core CPU with two Cortex-A75 performance cores clocked at 2.0 GHz and six Cortex-A55 efficiency cores running at 1.8 GHz. The integrated Mali-G52 MC2 GPU is powerful enough to ensure a smooth gaming experience and good video playbacks.

The Redmi 13c offers a variety of RAM and storage options that users can choose according to their needs. You can choose from 4GB, 6GB, or 8GB of RAM, paired with either 128GB or 256GB of internal storage. One thing to keep in mind is that the storage technology is eMMC 5.1, not the UFS which means that it has slightly low read and write speeds and the phones may hang at some times and you may experience long app opening times.

If you’re a stats nerd then we have got some benchmark scores for you as well. The Redmi 13c has scored decently on Antutu with a total score of 232228, which shows its endurance to handle day-to-day tasks and moderate gaming. Geekbench result shows a decent single-core score of about 402 and a multi-core score of about 1314 which is more or less similar to other phones that rock the same chipset inside them.

Not only the chipset is responsible for good performance but also the software. The MIUI 14 offers good gaming features that you can use to enhance your experience while gaming.

Camera

The Redmi 13c is equipped with a 50 MP main camera that captures decent-looking shots with clarity and precision. The f/1.8 wide lens ensures that it takes a good amount of light to capture bright and detailed shots, even in low-light conditions. For close-up shots, the phone includes a 2MP macro camera with f/2.4 aperture to capture the texture of different materials.

The phone is equipped with an 8MP front camera that comes with an f/2.0 aperture. Both the front and back cameras can only record video up to 1080p. Photos from this phone look decent but sometimes they are overexposed. The colors look fine and are not over-saturated.

Battery and Charging

The Redmi 13c is powered by a 5000 mAh non-removable battery, which thanks to software optimization can easily last for about 1 and a half days long. The phone does come with a charger in the box and has a power rating of about 18W and it supports PD technology.

One thing to keep in mind is that the battery has Li-po technology which is fine for fast charging but it has a low life span and can lose its health quickly in the long run. It would have been better if this phone came with a Li-ion battery, but considering its price tag Li-po is fine.

Software

The Redmi 13c runs on the latest Android 13 which comes with the MIUI 14 interface over it. This combination offers a smooth user experience with a clean design and easy navigation. MIUI 14 is well known for its features, especially for its optimization.

The phone does come with some special software features like:

  • Dynamic RAM Expansion: It utilizes unused storage space to expand RAM, ensuring a smooth multitasking experience.
  • Regular Updates: Xiaomi has promised that this phone will get two major software updates along with four years of security patches until 2028.

Redmi 13c price in Pakistan

The Redmi 13c was launched in Pakistan with a price tag of Rs. 27,999 and its international price may vary in different regions from $125 to $150. The phone does come at a very reasonable and shockingly low price tag. We can easily say that it is a value-for-money device. Other smartphones with this price tag lack major features like the G85 chipset and decent battery.

Conclusion

In conclusion, the Redmi 13c comes with a sleek design and robust performance. It has a user-friendly software experience and a decent battery life. The cameras capture decent shots and sometimes they lack quality in low light conditions. The display is fantastic but the notch is outdated and the bezels are huge.

Battery life is exceptional and charging time is great but it would have been better if the battery supports Li-ion Technology. Overall, the Redmi 13c is a great smartphone in the budget category and it shines due to its unique features.
